Books for All Database
The Books for All Database enables teachers and other education practitioners to search for and download books and other printed materials in adapted, accessible formats for print disabled pupils.
Anyone can search the database, but to download books you need to log on using your:
- personal Glow account;
- Or your personal or school Scran account.
The resources on the database are Accessible Copies of copyright books and works. These Accessible Copies are shared under the terms and conditions of the CLA Print Disability licence. The resources can only be used by pupils who are visually impaired or otherwise disabled and by reason of such visual impairment or disability are unable to read or access the original printed book.
To log in with Scran:
Provided you are in a Scottish local authority school, when you go to the database it should recognise your computer and you should see a drop down list of schools - select your school and that will log you in.
If you don't see a dropdown list of schools, contact Andrew James at Scran (who host the database) by either phoning (0131 662 1456) or emailing email@example.com. Andrew will be able to tell you your school's Scran username and password.
Scottish Local Authority teachers in primary, secondary and special schools can have free at home access to Scran and therefore to the database. To sign up, fill out the online form here.
To log in with Glow:
- Go to the Database and click the Log in with Glow button in the top right corner.
- Use your Glow username and password to log in.
If you can't get access with your Glow account, email Jennifer McDougall at firstname.lastname@example.org.
